The hope we confess

It’s been a year since Barack Obama was inaugurated and it was just today that a friend (Credit given to Maestro of Liberty News Forumpointed out to me that when Obama made his acceptance speech on August 28th, that he committed blasphemy.

Here is the quote from Obama:

“At this moment, in this election, we must pledge once more to march into the future. Let us keep that promise, that American promise, and in the words of scripture hold firmly, without wavering, to the hope that we confess.”

Here is the Bible quote:

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” -Heb 10:23

The hope mentioned in the Bible is hope in Jesus Christ and his resurrection. Unless one wants to make the case that Obama was seriously telling Americans to boldly cling to hope in Christ, we can only assume he was talking about the “hope” he and his campaign offered that was refrenced on every Obama poster, T-shirt and bumper sticker around.

This, of course, is blasphemy. It was, at best, done in ignorance. At worst, it was done purposefully. I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was simply quoting any Bible verse with the word “hope” in it in an attempt to sound “Christian” rather than actually claiming to offer a hope equal to that of Christ on purpose.

Either way, it doesn’t exactly speak well of him
